MAYOR'S MESSAGEIt’s no secret we’re in need of major infrastructure updates in Pascagoula. I know our road and waterline conditions are frustrating to many of you. They are to me as well. We can no longer kick the can down the road. I want you to know the city is making this a top priority and we’re committed to long-term plans to address infrastructure. Please keep in mind that replacing and repairing aging infrastructure is no small task. It’s something that will take years and millions of dollars. But we’re already getting started. The Ingalls Avenue road work is a $5.6 million project that consists of replacing water mains, sewer lines, and storm drains. The City Council recently voted to allocate the first $2.5 million installment of American Rescue Plan Act funding to replace and relocate failing water distribution infrastructure serving 8th, 9th , 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th Streets between Ingalls Avenue and Taylor Avenue, as well as the area including South Fernwood Street, Rosewood Street, Dogwood Street, and Redwood Street. The city has been awarded $915,000 in GOMESA funds to replace the failing drainage system in the Buena Vista Street area. These projects are steps in the right direction. While our infrastructure problem cannot be fixed overnight, rest assured it’s not being overlooked. -Mayor Jay Willis

In addition to Utilities, Christian has also spent some time in the Beautification Department. Christian is hardworking and a valuable asset to our team. DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENTWe are seeing tremendous growth in Downtown Pascagoula. Millions of dollars are being invested to make Pascagoula an attractive place for young professionals who work at our major industries. Several projects are currently under construction. City Centre, formerly known as the Pascagoula-Moss Point Bank, will be home to the corporate office of Baber Strunk Enterprises, Work Spot -- a flexible office space company, 28 apartments and a rooftop bar in the heart of downtown Pascagoula. Look at floor plans at citycentreofpascagoula.com. Work at the Odd Fellows building on Krebs Avenue is nearing completion where five luxury apartments are being built. Off the Hook Seafood will remain where it is and there will be another commercial space right next to it. At 641 Delmas Avenue, an Italian restaurant and a women's boutique are being constructed. Boldly Blonde, a new women's boutique is now open at 714 Delmas Avenue. On the riverfront, work has started on an additional nine townhomes. It's an exciting time in Pascagoula and we're excited to see all these projects come to fruition.

Resurrection Catholic School: The school year is off to a great start at RCS! At the Elementary campus, the students and their families celebrated an old tradition in a new way. Each year we celebrate Grandparents’ Day to acknowledge the many things Grandparents do for our students and school. For the second year, this celebration was held as a Grandparents’ Day parade! Families decorated cars and golf carts and the students made signs. We are so thankful for all the families that help to make RCS a great place for our students and faculty. On the high school campus, sports have gotten off to a great start! The RCS Eagles football team is off an 2-0 start with wins over North Forrest and Stringer. The defending state champs Lady Eagle Volleyball team is undefeated in district play. In baseball news, seniors Joe Scarbrough and JT Schnoor have committed to play at the next level and have signed with East MS Community College and Pearl River Community College, respectively. Great job and continue to Soar Eagles!
