MAYOR'S MESSAGECleaning up our city is something that is important to me, as I’m sure it is for many of you. The Police Department launched a great program that allows people to work off old fines by cleaning litter. We’re committed to addressing blight in our neighborhoods. Seeing Thunder’s on Market Street being torn down struck an emotional chord for many who have good memories there, but it’s a sign that Pascagoula is moving forward. While we’re making good progress, we need your help. Please don’t litter and if you see litter on the ground, pick it up. If you see properties in your neighborhood that need addressing, let someone know. Call our Code Enforcement office or contact your City Councilman. Let’s all work together to keep Pascagoula beautiful! -Mayor Jay Willis

FEDERAL FUNDING ALLOCATED TO WATERLINE IMPROVEMENTSDuring the July 20 City Council meeting, the Pascagoula City Council voted unanimously to allocate the first installment of $2,583,647 in American Rescue Plan Act funds to address aging infrastructure in the city. The funds will be used to replace and relocate failing water distribution infrastructure serving 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th Streets between Ingalls Avenue and Taylor Avenue as well as the area including South Fernwood Street, Rosewood Street, Dogwood Street, and Redwood Street. The existing infrastructure requires extensive regular maintenance and is a significant source of water outages and boil water notices in the City. The improvements will upsize the waterlines serving the areas and relocate the lines from alleyways to the street-side of the residences. The majority of the proposed lines will be installed outside of the asphalt within the street rights-of-way in order to improve meter and valve access, hydrant location, and maintenance issues.

This is the second phase of the Ingalls Avenue improvement project which includes replacing water mains, sewer lines, and storm drains. Ingalls Avenue will be repaved and new ADA compliant sidewalks will be put in.
