Pascagoula, Miss., July 19, 2017 – The Mayor and City Council are excited to begin live streaming City Council meetings on its Facebook page beginning August 1.
Mayor Dane Maxwell is excited about the opportunity to provide the citizens of Pascagoula one more option for engaging in their local government.
“Civic engagement is ever changing in the digital age,” Mayor Maxwell said. “We, as elected leaders, must do all we can to bring the business of the people closer to them so that they stay engaged and active as we implement the change Pascagoula so desperately needs.”
“This will be our first attempt to livestream City Council meetings on Facebook. While we hope there are no technical difficulties, we ask that the citizens be patient with our staff should any issues occur,” Mayor Maxwell added. “We want our residents to feel free to create a productive dialogue during the meeting but we also expect our residents to be respectful to each other, elected officials and staff.”
In addition to the streaming of the City Council meeting, Mayor Maxwell will answer selected questions immediately following the meeting, also on Facebook Live. This “Ask the Mayor” segment will follow each regularly scheduled City Council meeting. Questions can be submitted to the Mayor by emailing AskTheMayor@cityofpascagoula.com by Noon on the day of the meeting. The “Ask the Mayor” segment of the livestream will last approximately ten minutes. If no questions are submitted, Mayor Maxwell will discuss ongoing items of public interest.
The Mayor, Council and staff are committed to actively engaging the public through a variety of platforms, including the airing of City Council meetings on WGUD TV, engaging with local media outlets, and utilizing social media. The public can continue to engage by following the City of Pascagoula on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and SnapChat.
